The South West Coastal 300 (SWC300)

The South West Coastal 300 touring route is a visitor offering launched by Visit South West Scotland in 2019 and now marketed by the SSDA. It is a 300 mile circular driving routetaking in the coastline and uplands of Dumfries & Galloway, parts of East Ayrshire and the South Ayrshire coast.

The SWC300 allows us to package the south west of Scotland’s tourism offering in a way that visitors can easily digest and tailor to their preferences. The primary target audiences for the route include lovers of nature, history buffs and adventure seekers.

Is it just another North Coast 500?

We get asked that a lot! And the answer is a firm no. Having listened to the concerns of local businesses and learned from the challenges faced by the NC500 and its popularity, Visit South West Scotland and more recently SSDA have marketed the SWC300 in an entirely different way. We actively encourage visitors to slow down, to detour, to explore, to venture from the route and make it their own.

What has been the market response?

The response to the initial campaign in 2019/20 was far stronger than anticipated, driving 35k industry leads and over 1.5 million video views demonstrating a clear appetite in the market for such an offering. Since then the brand has grown in strength and remains one of the biggest drivers of traffic to scotlandstartshere.com.
