JOURNEYS THROUGH OUR LITERARY LANDSCAPE
Supporting and encouraging “Slow Tourism”, these nine trails and itineraries have been created to take the visitor across the South following the footsteps of the writers such as Burns, Buchan, Hogg and Scott and providing inspiration for the traveller to explore towns and hearing the stories told by the local communities.

Town Trails
Stories from the Dark Side and Eyemouth and the Smugglers Trail
An audio trail takes the visitor across Dumfries. Narrated by local, award-winning storytellers, Mostly Ghostly. Eyemouth’s Town Trail has been updated to appear in a digital format and describes the town’s links with Smugglers and its maritime history.
Two Itineraries
Burns and Great Tapestry of Scotland
Two itineraries take the visitor on weeklong adventures across the south of Scotland – providing opportunity to see the locations depicted in the Great Tapestry of Scotland and following the journeys that Robert Burns took right across the South. Designed to provide places to stay, eat and explore these itineraries can be followed to the tee or dipped in as suits individuals.

These trails take the visitor across the South, exploring the locations that inspired and was home to Sir Walter Scott, James Hogg, John Buchan, Robert Burns and the Border Ballads
